Principal Post

Dear Families,

Thank you so much for your support of the National Walk to School Day held last Friday!

We are so blessed to have such an enthusiastic and capable SRC whose organisation helped to ensure a successful morning!

It is very important that we continue the conversations at home about safety when walking or riding to and from school or around the local area.  Being healthy and active is also such an important part of our students lives!!  This needs to be encouraged!!

Thank you also to Woolworths at Clayton M-City for donating all of the fruit.

Congratulations to all our students!

As I  visit the classrooms, talk with and observe our students, reflect on our SRC, our Minnie Vinnie Team,  on our Captains, on our sporting representatives, it is timely to share with you the good news!!

How lucky are we at SJV to have  such excellent students who are constantly giving their best. Our Year 5-6 students model the behaviors and spirit so well for our young students. The pride all our students  have in our school, their willingness to be of help, their sense of fun and loyalty and most importantly their commitment to their learning is truly wonderful!  Congratulate your kids - they are wonderful and we are blessed!!

Classes Masses

Thank you to 5-6 F who who prepared last Friday's Mass.

This week we  invite all families to celebrate with  our hosts from 5-6M. After the Mass 5-6M parents are invited to a Morning Tea in the staffroom.  Please bring a plate but ensure all ingredients are included and clearly labelled. No Nuts (including nut oil)  or fresh cream.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our two graduate teachers Jess Lan and Leah Whiting.  We are so fortunate to have you working at St John Vianney's. You are doing a brilliant job!

National Simultaneous Storytime

Our students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) today. Each year, a book is selected to be read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, bookshops and many other places around Australia and New Zealand.

This year's NSS book is The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie

The  students enjoyed listening to and discussing the story in their classes.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week begins this Friday. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year's theme, Be a Voice for Generations, urges all Australians to use their power, their words and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us.Students will be invited to participate in a range of activities related to National Reconciliation Week both in their classes and the library next week.

National eSmart Week

This week is National eSmart Week which focuses on promoting smart, safe and responsible use of digital technology. During library sessions, students from Foundation - Year 6 are exploring picture books designed to help manage their online safety and ways to deal with cyberbullying issues.

Foundation 2024

Thank you to our families for attending the  Enrolment Interviews for Foundation 2024.  These continue today, with a few interviews still remaining across the next week.

Letters of Offer

All siblings are enrolled but letters of offer for Foundation 2024 will be sent to all families at the end of the month. Once these are received please send back your acceptance as soon as possible.

Fete 2023 update

Last evening the Fete Committee met. As you would have read from previous newsletters the Parish had made clear the expectation that the school needed half or almost half representation on the  Fete Committee. The expectation was that the 'Committee members' would attend meetings in person on various Tuesday evenings.

The school however did not have enough representation and so it has been decided that this Years fete will be a Parish event NOT a School/ Parish event. All profits from the fete will go to the Parish.

The Fete will be  October 21st.

With this in mind, the organisation of the stalls, donations,  wrist bands for rides and raffle tickets will be solely administered by the Parish.

Of course I encourage families to attend and to be involved as volunteers should they wish.

As a result of this decision, the school will begin to explore our options for a fundraising school community event(s) going forward.

Whilst we have small fundraisers in place we may wish to plan for a bigger event across the next 12 months (eg School Fete, Cultural Festival/ event).  If you have any ideas or would like to be part of a planning group please email me at
