Extracurricular Sporting

Term 1: Winners all round!!!

Rugby League – Winners!

Congratulations to both Year 9/10 and Year 11/12 Rugby League teams for winning their games!

The Year 9/10 boys demonstrated a strong defence and held their composure in their victory against Smithfield SHS. Our boys scored 5 tries and Smithfield scored 2 tries. The Year 9/10 Rugby League team are progressing well and developing in teamwork and cooperation.

The Year 11/12 boys worked hard to maintain their lead throughout the game with the overall score 22 – 20 over Djarragun College. A special mention to Ryley Ferguson who scored two tries and to Flynn Chigeza and Floyd Chigeza who scored a try each. Keep up the good work boys!

Club Netball – Winners!

SMCC played their third game of the season against Trinity Beach Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The team started off shaky with some minor errors that kept the game close in the first half.  In the second half the girls remembered how awesome they are and went on a defensive attack, keeping their opposition to 5 goals for the half and winning the game 21 to 13.

Our next game is against Sharks at 6.30pm next Tuesday.

U15 Boys Bill Turner Soccer Competition – Winners!

This week our junior boys’ soccer team competed in the first round of the Bill Turner soccer competition. The squad consisted of St. May’s talented up and coming soccer players who have been training since term 1. They were able to beat MacKillop Catholic College 4-1 in yesterday’s elimination round. Big congratulations to the boys for their effort in training and on the pitch and good luck as they proceed to the next round of the competition.

Expectations for students with regards to organisation:

  • Read the Notices located on the Student Portal each school day.
  • Bring their water bottle and hat to every Sport lesson. Failure to bring a hat will result in a lunch time detention. If your sport is a fitness-based activity, you will need to bring a towel.

Expectations for students with regards to behaviour and engagement:

  • Participate in the Sport/ Activity to the best of their ability.
  • Represent our College well when travelling off site.
  • Demonstrate respectful and appreciative behaviour towards any outside provider facilitating a program along with a St Mary’s staff member.

TCS & Peninsula Trials

Parents/ carers will need to contact the College regarding any school absence due to students attending Peninsula trials which occur during school hours. TCS trials occur afterschool.

Students are reminded to collect signed Peninsula paperwork from the HPE staffroom to take to their TCS trials. Students will NOT be allowed to trial if they do not have this paperwork.

Students and their families are responsible for:

Logging onto the Student Portal to obtain:

  • TCS Calendar (this tells you when your trial is on)
  • Peninsula paperwork (complete, hand in & collect to take to trial)
  • Notice of Trial (This document is uploaded to TCS Sport app within two weeks of trial)
  • Follow the timelines outlined in the Peninsula Paperwork Process – See below:

Instructions on how to obtain access through the Student Portal have been provided each week at the end of this Bulletin – See below:

  1. Go to the TCS Sport tile in the Student Portal

  2. In the ‘Key Paperwork’ section print the ‘Notice of Trial’ information for your sport trial. These will be uploaded as soon as we receive them. If it is not there for your trial, check again soon or see the sport staff in the HOB staffroom.

  3. Complete the ‘Peninsula Student Permission Details Booklet’ immediately and bring it to the HPE staffroom for signing – paperwork needs to be submitted AT LEAST one week prior to the trial date. If it comes in later than this, we cannot guarantee that students will get it back in time for the trial which can result in them not being allowed to participate.

Students then need to report back to the HPE staffroom within 2 days to collect their signed paperwork and take the Peninsula Student Details Booklet with them to the trial
