Identity and Mission

Anthony Chapman

The Mission Sisters have been involved with a number projects over the past weeks. Students from Years 7 and 8 have started lunchtime visits to Queenborough Rise Aged Care, meeting the residents and engaging in conversation as a means of reaching out to those marginalised and isolated. We are looking to continue this partnership as the year progresses.

The Warrane Mentoring group are enjoying their weekly visit to Warrane Primary School to help out with their Breakfast Program. A small group of  Year 10 students are up early and on the bus to assist with cooking breakfast and acting as role models for the students at Warrane.

Our Year 9 and 10 students are also putting their culinary skills to use every fortnight by using a lunchtime to prepare some treats to go out on Loui's Van, a project of St Vincent de Paul which provides food and conversation for Hobarts homeless and needy.

As well as all this, a group of students have started writing letters for people who receive visits from Meals on Wheels, again as a means of breaking isolation for those living by themselves.

With Year 8 STRIVE students cooking soup and the great work done by the Service Learning Elective class, there are plenty of actions happening which are reaching out to those that need a hand.
