Tasmanian All Schools Mountain Bike Championships
On Friday 5 May, the Tasmanian All Schools Mountain Bike Championships were held at the Trevallyn Nature Recreation Area, in Launceston. The weather forecast was very wet, so organisers were considering postponing the day before. Thankfully they pushed ahead and the day was not as bad as expected. Nearly 400 students participated from all over the state, in what is becoming an increasingly popular event. Mount Carmel was represented by Year 10 student, Avara Donovan and Year 9 student, Zali Elliott.
Both Avara and Zali were fortunate to be able to attend the event with a parent and performed strongly in the U17 female Cross Country race. Zali also competed in the Sidewinder timed stage, which is a 1.4km descent with some jumps and drops. Congratulations to Zali, who finished in 3rd place, to secure a medal.
Track and Field Achievement
Congratulations to Year 9 student Lacey Tilyard who attended the Australian Junior Athletics Championships 2023, held in Brisbane during the term break. Unfortunately due to an injury Lacey was only able to compete in the U16 Girls 400m, however her determination and perseverance saw her achieve a 4th place in the final.
