A Word from the Principal

Megan Richardson

Gracious and loving Lord,
Thank you for the seasons we can count on, find routine in, and that will never cease while the earth remains.
As we enter into autumn, when the cooler winds drift in and the days grow shorter, draw us closer to you. Let us feel your warm and loving presence.
May we imagine ourselves in your arms, close to your heart, surrounded by your light, and find comfort in your consistency when the world around us seems to be constantly changing.
Thank you for your loving kindness that engulfs us and your light that drives the darkness away.
We praise you for being a God who loves us and takes care of us.
We are grateful you are with us in all circumstances and seasons.
Amen.

Autumn at Mount Carmel College is a very special time of year.  It is certainly well worth taking a stroll through the entrance to take a breath and just be … amongst the autumn trees and gardens there. The many hues of crimson, gold, orange and green are a glorious reminder of the beauty of our school, the ever-changing seasons and the cycle of growth and renewal. It is the perfect place to take the time to thank God for all that he has created, reflect on the summer that has passed and prepare for the coming winter.  I encourage each and every one of you to take a moment …  and be thankful for the many splendours of autumn.

Social Media and our Students

Social Media has had both a positive and negative impact on society for a variety of reasons. Its many forms ranging from the more traditional FaceBook site to apps such as Snapchat are an opportunity to engage with others at any time. For some, it has been a chance to reconnect, seek support, fundraise, raise awareness, celebrate and learn. For others it is a chance to tear down, victimise, destroy and isolate.

I continue to remind families about the importance of connecting with your daughters about the positive use of social media, ways to remove yourself from groups and chats which do not reflect your values, reporting misuse and how posts can be shared in years to come. Last week an essential EdSmart went out in regards to Social Media with an excellent site full of resources and videos which would be helpful for any parents supporting their children. The College will be engaging in workshops for students including family sessions and will be in contact with every family directly if any misuse is reported.  I take this opportunity to thank you as we support our young women to navigate the online world.

Enrolment Update

A reminder we are still accepting Kindergarten and Grade 7 enrolments for next year with very limited places in other grades available. Contact Hannah Legge our Enrolment Officer for details, a tour or an enrolment pack.

We are also excited to be able to share our Kindergarten upgrade with families this week.  Please feel free to share the information we send about our innovative spaces with family and friends as we commence work this fortnight.
