The students in Room 1 have been busy this term, making, baking, creating and completing all types of work!We have spent some time making decorations for our house team colours, made biscuits for Anzac day, celebrated superhero day and have been working very hard in the classroom! We have been learning about living things and how they grow, learning about each other and our likes and dislikes, learning about Australia and the environment and have enjoyed practicing our reading, writing and maths too. Everyone has done an amazing job this term! Well done Room 1!
In room 3, we have been spending lot of time participating in shared reading experiences. This week we read a story called ‘Dear Zoo’. We used hand puppets as we read the story. Students loved the story. They were really engaged and participating by turning the page, making animal sounds, and holding the puppet in their hands.
Several times during the week students get a chance to independently choose a book and look at the pictures or engaging in shared reading experiences along with a staff member.
Room 4 are very enthusiastic when it comes to learning about the different ways that they can display our school values; Care, Share, Do your Best, and Be Safe. The students are enjoying playing together and practicing their sharing and turn-taking skills. There have also been some acts of kindness, whether this be getting their peer their lunchbox at morning tea, or helping a peer complete their work. Students are even using multimodal communication to engage with each other, including visual pictures, the PODD, and individual communication devices. The Room 4 gang are fostering a supportive and comfortable environment to allow each of them to be successful!
Room 5 students are learning about different seasonal changes and what happens with the weather at different times of the year. As part of our integrated unit learning, the students have been exploring how the colours in nature can change depending on the season. During our recent visual arts session, the students enjoyed creating a painting of an autumn tree by using a range of colours and different art mediums.
The return of swimming in term 2 has been met with great enthusiasm and engagement from the room 5 team. The students have been reviewing the expected pool behaviours and have been positive participants in their swimming sessions.
Room 5 have been working hard to earn Super Skill Bucks through demonstrating the school values by caring, sharing, doing their best and being safe both in the classroom and the playground.
Students in secondary have been further developing their reading skills by taking part in independent reading. Independent reading is important for all children, including those who are learning how to decode and make meaning from text, as it provides opportunities for students to explore a wide variety of text, learn to respond to text and develop a passion for reading.
