Boarding House

Letz Live – GAP year opportunities

It was a busy night in the Boarding House on Monday, with Ken James and Maddie Gorden from Letz Live speaking with our Year 11 and Year 12 students about their Gap Year programs.

Letz Live spoke about the pathway to establishing yourself, your independence and lifelong friends whilst experiencing new cultures and cities. The Hamilton and Alexandra College are proud to partner with Letz Live to open our doors for Gappers like Caycee to experience College and our community.

We also have Toby Hawthorne staying in the Boarding House at the moment, who is an Old Collegian and was Boarding House Captain in 2018.  Toby did a GAP year with Letz Live in England and now completing his final teaching round at the Junior School.  He is loving the 30 second commute from the boardo to work!

Boarding Week

Preparations are well underway for a great week of activities for the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA) Boarding week. Here is a summary for the fun planned for the week:

Monday: Gratitude dinner – boarders write what they love about boarding and about their boarding family members.

Tuesday:  Dinner discussions – share your tables commonalities with the rest of the Boarding House, followed by a dodgeball competition.

Wednesday: Boarding Assembly. Daniel Su (Year 11) has created a fantastic video which I will share with the boarding community after it is shown at the assembly.

Dinner will celebrate all of our boarders, full time and casuals, Year 12s will lead a panel with Toby Hawthorne as a guest speaker to chat about their boarding experiences.

Thursday: ABSA quiz night against other Boarding Houses in Victoria.

Friday: Table tennis and pool competitions, in-house board games and AFL on the big screen.

Saturday: Themed movie or documentary night (boarders vote!) and basketball competition.

Sunday: Morning walk around Lake Hamilton.

School photos - Wednesday next week.
