Junior Girl's AFL

On Friday the 2nd of June the Gisborne Secondary College Junior Girls' AFL team, or as they refer to themselves, the "Gissy Girls", headed down to McMahon oval in Sunbury to take on Bacchus Marsh College and Sunbury College.

Captain Isabelle H "the Cannon" lead from the front, top of the sheet in disposals, intercepts and goals, her defensive work to lock the ball in our forward 50 helped Gisborne retain nearly 100% of play in our forward half all day.

Multiple goals from Chloe R, Izzy H, Gabby B and Ellie C saw the Gissy Girls leading by 44 points at half time against Bacchus Marsh. With our backline feeling rather lonely and cold, our year 11 coaches Shakira P and Matilda R decided to flip the board and give them a go up forward for the second half. Final score 91 to 0.

Another dominant display against Sunbury College saw the Gissy Girl's through to the next round with another clean sheet. Ellie C's relentlessness saw her leading contest ball and left the opposition trembling in fear. Audrey W was ferocious without the ball, leading tackles and applying enough pressure to create turnover after turnover. A pair of goals each to Livvy W and Chloe R made the final score 54 to 0.

Year 7 Boys Football

On Monday 30th May the Yr 7 Boys football team ventured to the windy expanses of McMahon Oval in east Sunbury!

Our first game was against Bacchus Marsh SC and it was a fairly evenly matched game. BMC had the majority of the play in the first half but our boys toiled hard to lead by 5 points at half time. Things were poised very evenly throughout the second half but some poor reactions to umpires decisions cost us badly and BMC hit the front with 2 minutes to go. The boys desperately forced the ball forward, but we were unable to manage a score and lost by 1 point.

We went onto our second game against Sunbury College knowing that we couldn’t go through to the next round, but we could influence who out of Sunbury and Bacchus Marsh would go through. The boys surprised Sunbury and got off to a great start with repeated entries into the forward line where we were continually able to score, our backline was working well together and repelling all advances made by Sunbury, the boys were pumped at the half time huddle to be leading by 14 points. We were expecting a rally from Sunbury College in the second half but due to the commitment of the GSC boys we piled on the scores again to finish winners GSC 6 9   45 defeated Sunbury College 1 3    9.

Great team effort all day led by Finn T in attack, Ash C on the ball and Jake H in defence.
