ArtExpress
ArtExpress 2023 Excursion
Year 11 and Year 12 Visual Arts students, along with senior students from the Support Unit recently visited ARTEXPRESS 2023 at The Art Gallery of NSW. The exhibition showcases exemplary artworks created by HSC Visual Arts students from government and non-government schools. Cecil Hills students were inspired and engaged by the creativity, technical ability and conceptual strength of the high standard of artworks exhibited. The syllabus directs students to create bodies of work that represent their intention as artists and reflect a critical understanding of the art world and its complexities.
Students also had an opportunity to explore the new expansion wing of the AGNSW, including Adrian Villar Rojas’s installation, titled ‘The End of Imagination’ in the “Tank”. The largest scaled work in this gallery is Archive of Mind, a participatory work from South Korean conceptual artist, Kimsooja. With ‘Archive of Mind ‘, the artist invites visitors to collect a small lump of clay and roll it into a clay ball between their hands. As each sphere is completed, it is added to the table and collected over time, capturing the same small, sensory moment for thousands of visitors. Our students loved this unique art experience of transforming simple, everyday actions into moments of meditation.
