CASEA at Valkstone

In Terms 3 and 4 this year, the Alfred Health CASEA team will be working in our school. CASEA is a free state-wide program and the CASEA team works together with school staff, parents and carers to understand and help support children's social and emotional development. 'CASEA' stands for CYMHS (Child Youth Mental Health Service) and Schools Early Action, and the service is provided to schools by the Alfred Infant, Child and Youth Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Service.

The primary focus is on children in Foundation to Year 3.

What will this involve?  We use a screening questionnaire to understand each child’s feelings, behaviours and friendship skills. This is called the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Teachers complete the screening questionnaire for all the children in their class.

If your child is in Years Foundation to Year 3 and you do not want your child’s teacher to complete the screening questionnaire, please email the school at Valkstone.ps@education.vic.gov.au (subject line: CASEA) by WEDNESDAY 14th JUNE 9:00 a.m. with your child’s name and grade saying that you do not want them to participate, and we will pass that information on to the classroom teacher.
