Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Today is World Teachers’ Day and I take this opportunity to congratulate and thank all our staff for the wonderful contribution that they make to our students’ learning and well-being. We have such a creative, talented, and hard-working group of staff here at the College who quietly and efficiently get about their work and contribute so generously in their role as educators.

The children from Kindergarten, Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the Athletics Carnival yesterday. Congratulations to all our young competitors for their excellent participation in their running races and team games. The students put in lots of practice for their events, and all tried their personal best!

Special thanks to Mr Williams who planned and coordinated this fantastic carnival and prepared the students so well. Thanks to all the staff, Year 6 Sports Leaders and parent volunteers for all their efforts on the day. A big thank you to the many parents, grandparents who attended this annual event.

On Tuesday our Year 6 students joined many other students for the Year 7 Orientation Day. They have been looking forward to this day and it provided a wonderful opportunity for them to experience a day in the life of a secondary student. It was great to see our students networking with students from other schools.

On a different note, next year our Year 6 students are headed to Canberra for the Year 6 Student Leadership Camp in June 2023. This camp is going to be an empowering opportunity to broaden the depth of our students educational and life learning experience. The itinerary will include excursions to Parliament House, Australian War Memorial, National Museum of Australia, Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and Questacon (National Science and Technology Centre).

Finally, on behalf of the staff I express our appreciation for the delicious morning tea provided by parents for World Teachers’ Day.

Kind regards

GATE is great!

Last Thursday the Year 5 GATE students participated in the Scitech Challenge Day. We competed against other schools in groups of four in a variety of space-themed STEM challenges including Geology, a Space Quiz, a Maths Challenge, and an Engineering task.

In Geology, we tested samples of rocks to see which one was a meteorite. For the Space Quiz, we watched a space show in the planetarium, and answered 20 questions about space. Next was the Maths round, this was an optional bonus round for which we went around Scitech trying to find clues to crack codes. These codes helped us to plot stars on a map. The last task was an  Engineering challenge, which involved creating a space craft model which kept our astronauts safe by getting a low-pressure score when dropping it off the balcony.

At the conclusion, we had presentations in the planetarium. One of our groups achieved second place overall and received amazing prizes! It was a great day filled with lots of fun and challenging activities.

 Sports Update

It was an incredible day at the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival yesterday. The sun was shining, and the primary oval was full of colour, smiles and spirit. All the students did extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends who came and cheered, and a special thank you to the parents that volunteered their time to help at the finish line.

A reminder for Pre-Primary to Year 3 parents to complete the swimming enrolment forms and return to class teachers before Tuesday 15 November.
