Confirmation Day Reminders

Day of Confirmation - St Patrick’s Cathedral, Sunday October 23rd

Arrive at Cathedral in plenty of time to find a park, aim to arrive by 2:10pm.

When children arrive they are to meet their class teacher in the foyer with their sponsor to obtain their Confirmation card.

Student and Sponsor will then be ushered to reserved seating for themselves and their sponsor. Students who are reading will have a designated seat with their sponsor near the lectern.

Parents/Guests will be seated in pews behind all the candidates and sponsors.

Please be aware that no photos or recordings will be permitted during the ceremony. This is to ensure the sanctity of the ceremony. There will be ample opportunity to take photos with the Bishop after the ceremony.

There may be two collections during the Confirmation Ceremony due to it being a Sunday.

Anointing of the Sacrament of Confirmation

Children will be ushered up to Bishop to be anointed the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Sponsors will go up with their child and place their right hand on the child’s right shoulder for the anointing.  (Please let sponsors know this).

The Bishop lays his hand on the head of each recipient and, with his thumb, anoints the forehead with an oil called “Chrism”, in the form of a cross, while saying the child’s name in Confirmation and the words: “Be sealed with the Gift of the Spirit”.

Children will respond to Presider with: “Amen”

The Bishop will then say to the newly confirmed student: “Peace Be With You”

And the newly confirmed will respond with: “And with your Spirit”.

Dress - It is expected that the children and sponsors wear appropriate dress for a ceremony being conducted in a Church/Cathedral.  Traditionally students have worn suits, pants, shirt, tie, vests, dresses, skirts or a jumpsuit.

Stoles - Children may wear the stole they have used for their Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist. Inclusions for Confirmation can include; the date of the Confirmation, Confirmation name and a symbol of Confirmation. Should you require a contact for the purchase of or embroidery of stoles we can recommend Kembroid ttps://www.kembroid.com.au/product-category/stoles/

Best wishes,
