From the Principal

Term 4 Week 3

Confirmation

Our Parish Community will come together on Sunday at St Patrick’s cathedral at 2.30pm for Year 6s who are participating in the Sacrament of Confirmation.  The Principal Celebrant will be Bishop Terry Curtin along with Concelebrants Fr Michael Sierakowski and Fr Terry Kean.

This is a special occasion for the candidates and their families.  It is made even more special by the fact that our three parish schools will come together in the beautiful Cathedral that will provide a prayerful and spiritual atmosphere.

In advance, a big thankyou to all who have contributed to the preparation of these students, especially parents and teachers who have been most supportive with their guidance and advice.  Please keep them in your prayers for Sunday.

Bizarre Bazaar - Year 5/6 Classes

Our Year 5/6s have been enthusiastically preparing for their Bizarre Bazaar Market Day next Friday October 28.  As part of their Social Justice unit Care for the Kids, the Year 5/6s will be investigating a range of children’s charities to learn about what they do and they will choose one to support.  To raise money they have created products that they will raffle off at the Bizarre Bazaar Market Day.

On Tuesday next week other year level classes will have the opportunity to preview the products that the students have created.  This provides younger students with an opportunity to view the products made and think about which raffles they may like to enter. Our Year 5/6s will also have the opportunity to explain their products and how they went about making them. This way students can be prepared and come to school on Friday with enough money to enter the raffles they want.  Tickets are 1 for 50c / 3 for $1 (exact change would be appreciated). Teachers will help explain the process for their classes.

Below there are a few photos of the Year 5/6s enjoying the process of making their products.

We thank you in advance for your support.

School Advisory Council

Our next School Advisory Council Meeting will be the last for four of our members as their children head off to secondary school.  I would like to thank Jacki Landy, Faith Bell, Mark Noonan and Damian Barber for their service to the school.  All have served for multiple years and their contribution and support is greatly appreciated.  On your behalf I’d like to thank them for their efforts and we wish their families well as they move onto the next stage of education.

With departing members we are looking for expressions of interest from parents and carers to join the School Advisory Board.  The Terms of Reference are available on the school website under the School Advisory Board description on the Our Community page of the website.

An Expression of Interest Form and further information will be circulated to families via email next week.

Class Structures

In 2023 we will have 7 classes as we have this year.  There will be one Prep, two Year 1/2 classes, two Year 3/4 classes and two Year 5/6 classes.  Foundation 2023 Orientation sessions will begin on Wednesday November 9.

Effects of rain and floods

I know many in our community will have been impacted by the recent downpours and many will have friends and relatives who likewise will have been affected. At school we lost a tree from the playground that luckily fell when no-one was around (see image below).  Apart from one section of playground fence the damage was minimal.  Thanks to Mr. Pinkerton and his friend for removing most of the tree.

Long Service Leave

I will be taking some long service leave from Wednesday October 26 until Friday November 4.  Like most families our previous planned trips were interrupted by COVID restrictions so this is an opportune time to catch up on some missed special occasions.  Mr Mark Pinkerton will be Acting Principal in my absence.

Kind Regards,

Patrick
