Senior School Taking Action

Larissa Fry

The students in the senior school have been working through the design cycle to make improvements around the school. Groups researched stakeholders to develop an understanding of any areas in the school needing improvement and how different users are affected. Many parents, students and teachers were asked to fill in Google Forms or questionnaires during the finding out phase of the inquiry. Students then analysed the data and brainstormed solutions.

Throughout the last 6 weeks, there have been many speed bumps along the way. However, as teachers we are so proud of the persistence and effort being put in by all students.

Today, one of the groups, consisting of students from Unit LF and TD started to see the results of their hard work. Below is a letter written by the group requesting help from Bunnings.

To Brunswick Bunnings,

Hi there, we are a group of nine Grade 5 students from Brunswick North West Primary School and we have a request you may be able to help out with.

We've been working on a self-directed project where we choose an area of our school to improve. We have chosen to paint a wall, and in order to do this we held a bake sale to try and help raise money for our supplies.

Although the bake sale was a great success, we still didn't raise quite enough money for all the paint and resources we need such as lots of paint, rollers, frog tape, and drop sheets.

We will be using the money we've raised to purchase about $250 of materials from your store. Unfortunately, this not quite enough to cover everything we need for our project. We need an additional $235.80 worth of resources. One of the teachers at our school said that Bunnings sometimes give free things to schools. So, given we need some more supplies, we thought we'd see if there's anything you can do for us.

There is a table below of the paint we are requesting from you.

Thank you,

Evie, Rupert, Charlie, Thomas S, Thomas A, Rainer, Leo, River and Viola. Grade 5 students at Brunswick North West Primary School

Please see the incredible photos of our students in action. Come by the school later this week to see the finished product!
