Echuca Moama Youth Expo

Last week, our Year 7, 8 & 9 students attended the Echuca Moama Youth Expo at the Echuca Stadium.

For many of our students, this was their first opportunity post COVID lockdowns, to participate in a community event with students from other local secondary schools - and they loved every minute of it!

We would like to thank all the organisers and exhibitors for providing such an amazing opportunity for our students. The amount of effort they put in to survey the interests of our students, prior to the event, was evident by the genuine engagement of the students in so many of the displays all around the stadium!

In particular we would like to acknowledge Year 8 student, Georgia Armstrong, who volunteered her time to form part of the planning committee, alongside other students from Moama Anglican Grammar, River City College, Echuca College and representatives from CCLEN and Campaspe Shire.

We asked Georgia a few questions about what it was like to be part of the planning committee:

Why did you get involved in the planning committee?

I was really keen to do something to help out in the local community and showcase some of the amazing young talent we have and businesses that can help. I know the pandemic has been really difficult on young people, particularly on their mental heath so I wanted to help highlight organisations like Headspace and CCLEN that could provide support and assistance to those looking for help. I also saw it as a great opportunity to try something new. I've never done anything like it before and thought it would be good to learn some new skills and work on my strengths.

What did you enjoy most about being on the planning committee?

It was great to collaborate with other schools and organisations and have the opportunity to work with different personalities and ideas to come together to form one strong program.

What did you most enjoy about the Expo?

I think it was presented so well and I'm really proud of all our efforts. The day ran really smoothly and I've had a lot of positive feedback from other students about how great the stall holders were and how they were a good fit for their target interests and helped them to learn more about what's in the community.
