Year 9 English

Miss Alchikh and Mr Quilty's Year 9 English class were given a taste of life as a teacher this week as they visited the Year 5 classrooms.

In Term 3, Year 9 have been studying the unit Gospel Spirituality, where they have viewed a range of short texts through the conceptual lenses of hope, justice, compassion and peace. The students were tasked with creating their own short film or picture book that centered around one of these concepts. These texts were then used as inspiration to teach the Year 5 students. The Year 9 students led their junior counterparts enthusiastically through activities and class discussions. Undoubtedly some future teachers in the making!

Read for Pleasure these Holidays

Literacy expert, Professor Stephen Krashen says that “reading for pleasure is the single most effective way to increase literacy, not only that it’s pleasant!”

These holidays, the library is supporting reading for pleasure with unlimited borrowing and a wide variety of books to choose from. As well, our digital library offers plenty of choice with over 3000 ebook and audiobook titles.

Audiobooks are highly recommended for a family road trip. An audiobook is the perfect antidote for a long car trip with the holiday fun beginning the moment you buckle-in and press-play.
