Dear Parents/Carers,

What another busy fortnight we have had at Rowville Primary School.  Students across the school have participated and engaged in a range of experiences including Foundation, Year 1 & 5 swimming program, Nutrition Week with daily activities and food tastings, Regional athletics, Junior Regional Hoop time, gymnastics program and incursions.

I was fortunate to visit the ‘Reptile Encounters’ incursion on Tuesday as part of the Year 3 How The World Works inquiry unit of ‘We’re All in This Together.’  This incursion provided students with opportunities to interact, touch and hold a range of different Australian animals, such as invertebrates, amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles. They discussed the different stages of their development, symbiotic relationships between living things and how all living things grow and change over time.

A highlight for me was seeing the wonder, excitement, and engagement in every student. Our students asked interesting and thoughtful questions, upheld our values of respect and responsibility towards each creature, and actively participated in conversations, willingly sharing their own knowledge and facts. It was wonderful to hear from the Year 3 teachers, that students could not wait to open their writers’ notebooks following the incursion. Students were eager to record interesting facts that they had learnt, others reflected on their experience, while some collected new seeds for future writing pieces.

I really liked meeting the two most dangerous animals on show – the python and the saltwater crocodile. Luckily it was a small crocodile so it could fit in the box! Nate

At the reptile encounter, I got to sit next to a freshwater crocodile. It reminded me of my holiday in Cairns where I got to touch a salty. Cooper

My highlight at the reptile encounter was when I wrapped the snake around my neck like a scarf.  He felt heavy and a bit rough. Kaylia

It was fun but scary to have a snake on my neck. It felt like there were lots of tiny feet moving on me. Mele

At the reptile encounter, the animals I liked the most were the python, blue tongued lizard and the possum. The python was my favourite because it looked interesting. Amelia

At our incursion, I got to hold a frog. It felt very soft and sensitive as I needed to support it with my hand. Elsa

Just a friendly reminder that the School Canteen will be closed during our Beyond Boundaries Adventure Program from Monday 7 November – Friday 11 November.

Kind regards,
