Principal  Message

This week has been a whirlwind of highs and lows as a school.  The anticipation leading up to the performance was filled with excitement. Those who were nervous soon gained confidence as they rehearsed on stage with their costumes.  We all left George Wood feeling ready, energised and confident the show would be a hit.  I could not have been prouder of our students during our dress rehearsal.  There was lots of standing around and waiting as we stopped and started to set the lighting and sound. They were patient and supportive of each other and worked as one team for the entire day.

When the rain poured down at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon, I did not even consider the possibility of the venue flooding.  So, when Kirsty called me to tell me the Production had been cancelled, I was caught completely off guard.  However, we are all getting extremely good at making sharp u-turns after the pandemic and so I knew immediately that we would work as a school to solve the problem and deal with whatever came our way.  Had we not had the pandemic I honestly believe the news would have been far more difficult to manage.  The staff rallied around Kirsty and began getting messages out through a wide range of channels.  Supportive messages (and flowers) flooded in from families and within 24 hours we had a tentative plan that was confirmed yesterday morning.

George Wood Centre management have been great. They too really wanted Warrandyte Primary School to get the chance to perform.  They had seen the dress rehearsal and had commented to Kirsty on how professional the show looked and were blown away by the talent our students demonstrated.  They wanted the show to go on as much as we did.   I am certain that the performance the students give on Wednesday evening will be even bigger and better. They are also used to having things change on them last minute and have missed many important opportunities over the last few years.  We are so happy to have been able to show them that their school is on their side, working for them and willing to do whatever we can to see them succeed.

In terms of our school holding up in the rain, we have not had any significant issues with the downpour. There are a few leaks, and we will get these looked into, but there has been no flooding or water damage at this stage. There have been quite a few lunchtimes that are wet day timetables and again the students have been so well behaved, and the older students have looked after our younger students.  The rain is expected to continue through most of next week so we will look at setting up more structured activities for the students over lunchtime.

I will see you all on Wednesday evening and look forward to the performance. Our students will give us a great night of entertainment.  Just wait ‘til you see the finale. It’ll hard for you to not get up and join in with the music.

Take care

Nieta
