Calrossy Junior School
This week we conclude our learning with the final fruit of the spirit, Self-Control. Something that could prove quite useful as we wind down the term and look forward to holidays.
Self-control is having control of your feelings and behaviour; being patient, calm and composed. Self-control helps us to say, ‘no’ to doing or saying the wrong thing and ‘yes’ to doing the right thing. The Holy Spirit will help those who trust God to develop the ability to control their own thoughts, words, and actions. Self-control leads to perseverance as we value the long-term good instead of the instant gratification of the world.
19 My dear friends, you should be quick to listen and slow to speak or to get angry. 20 If you are angry, you cannot do any of the good things God wants done. James 1:19-20
Year 4 Camp Reflections
From Year 4: Our favourite place that we visited was Taronga Zoo. We loved seeing the variety of animals and learnt interesting facts. Some of our favourite animals were gorillas, meerkats, tigers, seals, elephants, giraffes and Tassie Devils. The Seal and Bird Shows were also a highlight. A memorable moment was seeing the flags at half-mast on the Harbour Bridge and having a minute silence to remember and reflect on Queen Elizabeth II and her 70 years of service. Here are some more highlights:
- Maritime Museum – Walking through a navy vessel was fascinating and a great experience. We saw the anchor from the HMS Sirius from the First Fleet.
- Sydney Harbour Bridge Walk – We loved seeing ‘bendy busses’, Campbell’s Cove and the spectacular sights of Sydney. Did you know a train passes over the Sydney Harbour Bridge every 4 minutes?
- Sydney Opera House- We learnt about the petal shaped discs that reflect the sound back to the orchestra and the architecture and design of the building. A memorable moment was seeing the Sydney Symphony Orchestra rehearsing.
- Sydney Tower- Many of us overcome our fear of heights to see the great views of Sydney. We loved how high the skyscrapers were, learnt that the lifts take 44 seconds to get to the top on a normal day and about 1 minute on a windy day and enjoyed watching the 4D movie.
Year 6 Poetry
This week, Year 6 entered the Red Room Poem Forest Competition which required each student to craft a poem about nature. For each poem submitted a tree is planted in the Mount Annan Botanic Gardens Poem Forest in Sydney. The criteria was to write a poem about nature with a maximum of 20 lines. In preparation for this task, students attended a Zoom poetry writing workshop, explored the environment here at school, practised writing similes, metaphors, personification and brainstormed creative and vivid vocabulary to create some descriptive and expressive poems. Please see below, Eleanor Fisher’s Poetry on Wattle.
On a personal note, I will be away on Leave during Week One and Two of Term 4 as I am getting married. Adam and I are getting married in Tamworth and taking some time to go away afterwards. I will return to school as Mrs Smith on Monday 24th October – no relation to Mr David Smith!
Have a wonderful final week of term and a great holiday break, I look forward to seeing everyone again when Term 4 is well underway.
