Specialists Updates and Celebrations

Messages from our Specialist team (P.E., Art, Music and Mandarin)...

Physical Education

During PE this week our whole school has been engaged with golfing lessons from Paul Boxall a member of PGA (Professional Golfers Association). The Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students have developed their putting technique and how to be safe while playing golf. Our Grade 3/4 and Grade 5/6 have been learning and developing their chipping game from 10 metres to 30 metres. It’s been a fantastic experience for the students and a great way to finish of the year. If any students are interested in playing golf over the holidays, just search mygolf on the internet and you will find kids programs run by PGA coaches all over Australia.

Environmental Education

We have had a fantastic time learning about the environment together this semester! Students have learnt about local plants and animals, the connection to Country held by First Nations peoples, waste and recycling, and climate change. Students have showed so much enthusiasm and care for our environment and have been able to actively participate in taking care of it, doing things like improving the way we use bins and even helping to grow plants at school. We have felt very lucky to have our amazing school garden right next door to our classroom for us to spend time in!

This week students have spent time in the garden investigating plants and animals - we found ladybirds and even worms!

Music

2022 was an absolutely amazing year for the SMPS Music Program. The highlight was seeing incredible student growth with practical skills. Our students are fortunate enough to have a well resourced Music Room. We have made the most of this by learning solo, small group and whole class pieces on auxiliary percussion, djembes, bucket drums, marimba and guitar.

A special mention to the students involved in the ensembles program including; choir, marimba band and rock band who worked extremely hard during break times to learn material for whole school and community performances.

A huge thank you to the broader school for supporting special events like the Rockstar Day Fundraiser, Mother’s and Father’s Day Music Workshops and of course, the school production “2050”.

What a special year it has been. Thank you for supporting the Music Program at SMPS!

Visual Art

Art Show Highlights of 2022

I cannot thank our amazing SMPS community enough for such a spectacular Art Show! The students have worked incredibly hard all year on their artworks, and being able to share their work with our community has been such an honour! I couldn't be more proud of what they have accomplished and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did! I have attached below an image of each class' Art Show displays, so if you were unable to attend, please feel free to have a look! I cannot wait to see what these talented students come up with next year in Visual Art. Enjoy your holidays everyone!
