2023 Governing Council Nominations

Have you ever thought about getting more involved in the school’s decision-making? Why not join the Governing Council?

The Annual General Meeting will be held following the OPEN NIGHT

on Tuesday, 7th February 2023

All parents/carers who have children currently enrolled at our school in 2023 are eligible to nominate for election as a councillor.

No parent/caregiver is eligible if they are:

A declared bankrupt or has applied “for the benefit of a law for the relief of insolvent debtors”
Convicted of any offence prescribed by administrative instruction.

Permanent employees of The Department may stand for election but:

must not comprise the majority of councillors
are ineligible to hold the position of Chairperson

All school volunteers including members of Governing Council undertake a Criminal History Check through The Department. The school facilitates and pays for this process.

If you are elected, you will have the opportunity if you so desire to be a member of one subcommittee or holding an office bearer’s position. It will be completely your decision.

Early Years PLC

EY1 - This term we have been exploring Narrative texts and students have enjoyed creating their own stories. Students have developed their Design and Technology skills by building a secure house for the Three Little Pigs. We had a wonderful day at the movies for our end-of-year excursion and all classes have been working hard and practising for the End of Year Concert, we can’t wait for you to see our performances! Students and teachers are looking forward to making their last two weeks together in 2022 memorable.

EY2 - We have been finishing off lots of topics this term and getting ready for our Christmas concert item. We all had a terrific day at the movies and enjoyed the message and animations in `Strange World.’ We look forward to doing a few Christmas activities for the final 2 weeks and having a nice end to our year together.

Primary Years PLC

The Year 3 and 4 students thoroughly enjoyed both the Colour Run and Waterworld this term. The students were actively involved in both events and especially enjoyed the inflatable equipment at Waterworld.

On Friday of Week 7, the students hit the dance floor at the Footsteps disco. Classes have been practising their End of Year concert items in preparation for next week. In English we have been completing the Department Units.

In Maths as part of the Tierney Kennedy Back to Front Maths program, we completed stage testing which is one of the assessments that we used to measure growth and provide information to the 2023 teacher.

The Year 3/ 4 team will finish up the year with a combined pizza party on Thursday of Week 9.

Middle Years PLC

Year 5 and 6 students have been learning about poems, anthems, odes and different texts written in time. Students enjoyed the activities and engaged well with the learning.

Students have greatly enjoyed learning about the Paddock to Plate process where they learned about how food is harvested or processed and then the journey it goes on before it lands on our plates.

All students thoroughly enjoyed the Colour Run and Waterworld.

The highlight of the term for most students was the Year 5/6 camp in Week 6. They went to Port Hughes for 2 nights and got to enjoy snorkelling, kayaking, beach combing and playing beach sports.

Year 6 students are currently rehearsing for Graduation, and both year levels have been practising their dance items for the EOY concert.

Performing Arts

Students in all year levels finished their music and drama units and have transitioned to dance. Students have been learning about shape and contrast while also having fun with dance-offs. They are all encouraged to perform to build confidence. Each PLC has also practised their concert dance for the end-of-year concert.

I have also looked back throughout the semester on what needs extending in which PLC’s. For this reason, the early years have also been extending their understanding of body percussion. Years 3 and 4 have been extending their understanding on beats and the year 5/6 students have been extending their learning on voice expression.

Japanese

Students in the early years have been learning how to do a simple self-introduction that includes a greeting, saying their name and age. They also drew a self-portrait and then added the self-introduction information. The year 3 and 4 students have finalised their topic of verbs and using different tenses. The year 5 and 6 students also looked at self-introductions with a focus on pronunciation and intonation. Students from years 3 to 6 are now enjoying using the game platform blooket to recall hiragana and kanji.

Science

This term we have been focusing on Earth and Space Science. The foundation and year 1 students have been learning about the weather and describing the daily weather patterns. They have ended the term by learning about the seasonal changes of Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring.

Year 2 students have been focusing on identifying celestial objects and describing the patterns they observe in the sky. They began the term looking at the movement of the Sun and Moon during the day and night, and have ended the term focusing on other celestial objects like the planets in our solar system.

Year 3 and 4 students have been developing an understanding of the Sun, Earth and Moon. They have been analysing and describing the causes of day, night and seasonal changes.

Year 5 and 6 students have been focusing on the planets in our solar system. They have been analysing and describing the planet’s orbit and distance from the Sun, each planet's unique structure and other celestial objects found in space.

PE

In week 7, our Specialist Tag Rugby teams competed at the Primary School State Tag Championships. Our girl's team placed 3rd and our boy's team placed 1st. Thank you Brayden for coaching both teams this year.

In week 8 our girl's cricket team played in the Statewide Grand Final, they were triumphant and are now State Champions! Thank you Mr Smith and Brayden for coaching the team this year.

Our Junior Primary classes have been participating in the Mascot Challenge. This is a free cricket program to develop throwing and catching skills. The Primary buddy classes have taken on a leadership role in learning the program and then teaching it to the JP classes.

IBL

Year 5 and 6 classes have been using the 3D printers and Tinkercad - a computer-aided design program to design and print a personalised 3D Christmas tree ornament.

Year 3 and 4 classes have been investigating how human actions can affect the environment with a focus on our local area.

Year 1 and 2 classes have been investigating water - why it is so important, where it comes from and how we can use it responsibly.
