The sky was a buzz with drones on Wednesday afternoon with the Drone Club taking advantage of the wonderful winter weather (clear sky) to showcase their talent and skill. Year 9 Drone Club member, Henry Gooch, demonstrated his expertise by flying a drone 120 metres above the school grounds to capture a wonderful view of the sun setting to the west. Calling all Maths and Science enthusiasts! Nominations for the 2022 FameLab Academy Competition are now open. FameLab is the world’s leading science communication competition that aims to discover charismatic early career scientists who can inspire people to see the world from new perspectives. The Fogarty Foundation has partnered with the Foundation for the WA Museum to establish FameLab Academy, a school’s initiative for Year 9 and 10 students to encourage their interest in STEM and develop their science communications skills. Students are required to present for 3 minutes on a Maths or Science topic of their choosing. Heats will be held in early Term 3, with the College winner to compete in the FameLab Academy State Final which will be held at the Heath Ledger Theatre later this year. Further details can be found by clicking on the attached link. The top performers will receive trophies and cash prizes!

A reminder that entries for the 2022 College Creative Writing Competition close on Friday 29 July (Term 3, Week 2). This competition is open to students from Years 7 to 12 and encourages imagination, innovation, and creativity. Short stories can be on a topic of your choice – and House points will be awarded for participation. A collection of the best stories will be published. There are great book prizes for the best entries per year level – with the top entry receiving a trophy at this year’s Magis Awards. Further details can be found by clicking on the attached link.

The Magis Camp to Point Walter will take place next Term. We have some terrific activities planned which will prove an enriching experience for Magis students. Camp permission forms were emailed to the parents and guardians of the Magis students who attended the information session earlier this week.

Thank you to all students and staff for a wonderful Term – and best wishes for a well-deserved break.
