Around The Primary

Dear Parents

It is hard to believe that another term has ended!

Congratulations to all our students who have continued to work hard through illness and absences. Well done to all our wonderful staff who have stayed calm, enthusiastic, and professional throughout this challenging time. Thank you to our supporting parent body who continue to partner with us in the education of your children.

Now that we have returned to our normal events and activities, the next semester promises good times ahead!

Wishing you all a very happy, safe, and relaxing holiday break with your children

We look forward to seeing all students back at school on Thursday 21 July.

Kind regards

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Our Year 6B students have shared some of their reflections from the Confirmation unit, ‘Gifts of the Holy Spirit’:

I chose Saint Francis because he experienced what others were experiencing by living a life of poverty and he loved caring for all God’s creation. He also taught people the Christmas story and the faith of Christianity. Saint Francis inspires me because he cared for all of God’s creations, and he valued everyone and everything equally. He made sure that everyone is part of God’s family and never left behind. I want to develop the gift of understanding to know what people are going through or experiencing.
Alessio Torre

I chose Saint Gemma because she is the saint of kindness and I think this is an amazing attribute. She inspires me to always be kind and display the gifts of the Hoy Spirit through my actions and my words. I would definitely like to develop kindness like Saint Gemma did and self-control to resist the temptation to make a bad choice.
Bella Gauci

I chose Saint Francis of Assisi because he helped to preserve nature and strives to save the wildlife of the earth, Our Common Home.
Hudson Grabham

I chose Saint John because I like how he always helped others. One day I want to be like him. He inspired me because he never gave up and always tried to do what was right not what is easy. In the future, I hope that I can use/display the gifts of wisdom and fortitude through the good example of Saint John.
Luke Nicol

The fruit of the Holy Spirit I think I need to develop is patience. The reason why I chose patience is because I need to listen more to people when they speak and wait until it is my turn.
Mia Pruiti

Bishops' Religious Literacy Assessment

Next term our Year 3 and Year 5 students will be participating in the Bishops’ Religious Literacy Assessment (BRLA). This assessment will occur on the following days:

Year 5Wednesday 3 August
Year 3Thursday 4 August

The BRLA measures students’ knowledge and understanding of the content in the Religious Education Curriculum. It provides a ‘point in time’ snapshot of student performance.  As with all assessments, we encourage students to approach the online assessment with a calm and positive mindset.

Sacramental Certificates

Parents are requested to email a copy of their child’s Sacramental Certificate (Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation) to Mrs Petsos in Main Administration nancy.petsos@cewa.edu.au for our College records.

Primary Music

It’s All About The Brass!

As part of the their unit on the different instrument families, the Year Two students were treated to a presentation by one of our music tutors. Mr Peter Chan, a brass specialist, delighted the students with energetic performances, interesting information, and entertaining stories about these fantastic instruments. The students looked at and listened to the trumpet, French horn, trombone and tuba and identified their similarities and differences.

Catholic Performing Arts Festival

The Catholic Performing Arts Festival takes place next term, with over 20 000 students from 158 Catholic schools in Western Australia taking part in various categories including instrumental and choral performances. Students performing solos have been emailed regarding their session information and parents are required to arrange their own transport to and from these performances.

The choral performances for Wanju Voices and Primary Singers will take place on Thursday 25 August in the 9:30am session at the Vasto Club, Balcatta. Students will be transported by buses from the College to and from this event. Further information with all details will be communicated next term. Parents may wish to purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment. Try Booking ticket links for all sections of the festival may be found under the ‘Performing Arts Festival’ tab www.spiritofthearts.com.au. Ticket sales open on Monday 4 July, 2022. Students who are performing do not require tickets.

Rowing Regatta

A very big thank you to all Primary families who signed up to assist in baking a cake or slice for our Head of the River Regatta last weekend. The hosting of this Regatta comes around every 6 years and without the generous help from our John XXIII College community, it would make the task almost impossible.
