Principal's Report

The past two weeks have once again flown by and it's now hard to believe we're getting ready to wrap up for the term.  I am extremely proud of the resilience that students and staff have shown over the past two weeks, navigating and working through staff shortages which have resulted in sometimes last minute timetable, teacher/ES and program changes.  Students have also bounced back to learning when they have returned to school after having some time off due to health.

As a whole school we've had a focus on one of our important and underpinning values of respect.   Students have been looking at how they show respect in the school yard and have developed a set of whole school respect behaviour expectations.  This week, classes are working on one-two expectations each to describe what the behaviour looks like.  Students will be presenting these at assembly on Friday.

Behaviour Expectations - Respect

In the Yard

  • We put rubbish in bins
  • We take turns to share equipment
  • We play safe
  • We include others in play
  • We look after nature, people and property
  • We are quiet in the sensory garden
  • We help others who may be hurt

Staffing Update

5/6B teacher, Nathan Baxter, will be finishing up at MPS at the end of term 2.  He will continue his teaching career at another primary school.  Nathan has been a well liked and respected teacher by students, parents and colleagues at MPS for the past 2 and 1/2 years.  We thank him for his commitment and contribution to his students and the whole school during this time.  While we will be sad to see him go, we wish him all the best with in his new role.  We are fortunate to have Sheena Cronin return from leave who will commence in 5/6B as their new teacher from the start of term 3.

3/4B teacher, Anna Bondini, will be taking leave for the first 6 weeks of term 3.  Lisa Mackney who currently works alongside Anna for 3 days/week will be the full time teacher of 3/4B during this time.  We wish Anna a lovely holiday.

Neil Butler has decided to extend his personal leave and will be absent for term 3.  I will continue in the acting principal role during this time.   I look forward to continue to work with the school community to provide the best education and care that we can for our students, your children.

School Leaders Luncheon - by Zac and Ava

The Hon Bruce Atkinson MLC and Member of Parliament, Matthew Bach hosted a primary school leader’s lunch at Eastwood Primary School.  Zach and Ava have shared their experience with you below.

On Wednesday the 1st of June, we attended the School Leaders Luncheon at Eastwood Primary School.  All the schools in the Ringwood area came together to discuss Leadership Roles, their Schools and Ways to Show Respect. We got to know the student leaders from other schools and found some students hoping to go to the same high school as us. We learnt that Leaders show respect and listen to everyone. We reviewed that a leader needs to be an exceptional role model, be able to show excellent courage and bravery, and need to be able to make others feel important and included. We showed teamwork and fairness on Wednesday and had an enjoyable time with our fellow leaders. Our favourite thing was the incredible lunch and we thank Eastwood P.S. for hosting.

School Review

In term 4 this year we will have our school review.  Every four years, DET schools have a review to evaluate the previous 4 years and then set goals and targets for the following 4 years through a School Strategic Plan.  This term, staff have started to work through some of the Pre Review Self Evaluation activities in readiness for the review.  We will soon be inviting parents to take part in a focus group to reflect and provide feedback on the past 4 years.  Further information on the focus group, including a date will be advertised soon.
