BEANIES FOR BRAIN CANCER

On Friday 1 July, Mater Dei students will be participating in Beanies for Brain Cancer Day to raise money and awareness for Brain Cancer. This day is held annually to remember all those who have been affected by Brain Cancer, especially Illaria Donebus, who was a much loved student of our community. Students will wear a beanie in return for a gold coin donation which will be collected and given to the Mark Hughes Foundation. They provide funding for research as well as supporting cancer patients and their families.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FORUM

Last week ten of our Year 10 students attended the Youth Mental Health Forum at Wagga Christian College. This is an annual event where schools across the Riverina converge to listen to experts in the field of youth mental health and wellbeing. The end of the day sees each school design a project to implement within their own environment, with the aim to make a positive impact on their community’s mental health and wellbeing. Our team will reconvene before the end of term to crystallize our plan prior to presenting it to College Leadership. The day was a great opportunity for young people to have voice and agency within the wider community as well as their own immediate one at school.

YEAR 8 PARENT PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

What is it?

As part of the CEDWW Parent Partnership Program facilitated by Clinical Psychologist Andrew Fuller, we are excited to launch our SkillUP 2022  initiative starting this week.

What do you need to do?

Sit down with your child and look at the timeline for the SkillUP Project.

We will be scaffolding practical ways for parents to support the development of Executive Functioning Skills with their child/children at home across the next 9 weeks.  You’ll be working collaboratively with us and your child to develop research, time and action planning, use of cognitive organisers, as well as concentration and memory skills.

Possibly a little hand eye coordination as well!

At the end of 8 weeks what will your new skill or talent be?

Please see the attached and view the below video for more information.
