Exploring Dreamtime Stories in 1/2TB

In literacy this week, Grade 1/2TB have been learning about Aborginal Dreamtime stories. In Reading, we started to explore some of the descriptive language used in dreamtime stories. We read the story “How the Birds got their Colours” and students used the skill of visualising to create a picture in their mind that matched the dreamtime story based on the descriptive language used. Students are also beginning to compare Dreamtime stories to non fiction books (which we have been learning about this term) and look at the similarities and differences between fiction and non fiction texts.

 Stewardship and Sustainability

This semester in Religion students have explored the meaning of Stewardship and what it means to be a Steward of the Earth. We have been investigating how our earth has changed from the Creation story to today and ways that our environment has suffered over the years. We have also combined this learning with our Inquiry unit on Sustainability and students have thought of ways to make changes in our everyday lives so that we can look after our precious planet and create a better future for all.
