From the Classroom

Grade 5/6

During the past couple of weeks, we have been very busy with assessment, in preparation for writing reports. We have been very impressed with the effort that the students have put into their testing and they are all keen to do well.

We have completed our unit about Civics and Citizenship. We conducted our own election by using ballot papers for selecting pizza, a ballot box and polling booths. The winners were Aussie, Meatlovers, Margarita and Tropical. We also learnt about the three levels of government - Local, state and federal. We displayed our knowledge in a triorama.

As homework, students can access their matched tasks in Essential Assessment - My Literacy and My Numeracy. They can work through activities and achieve trophies. This will support and consolidate their learning at school. Each student will bring home their log in details. They can access the platform online on a computer or iPad.

Art with Ms Ulhendorf

Dear Parents,

The art room is abuzz with projects we have been working on. Well into the middle of Term 2 we have found our groove. We are well on our way creating and completing some wonderful multimedia projects. Quite a few of our creations are displayed in the learning street and I will be replacing them soon with new works. Years 5 and 6 have learned about marine pollution and in response to this created wonderful fine liner turtle art. You will see those turtles floating and swimming in painted waters as a large collaborative artwork. At the moment, the displays at school show the firetruck artworks created by our junior students.  Sculptural paper works like lions and owls created by our middle and senior school kids are on display in the office corridor. Stunning emotive and expressive charcoal art inspired by stories about Anzac Day, showing the drama and destruction of war, are displayed in the learning street, highlighting the talent of our Toolamba artists. Finding out about The Australian Grand Prix, Years 1 - 3 have created race tracks with paper sculpted palm trees and all the paraphernalia that surrounds the event. Next term, the medium of clay will be explored and we will venture into some textile art as well. Enjoy a photographic snapshot of our recent projects.

From Ms Uhlendorf and her arty crew.
