Year 12

Year 12

Term 2 can be challenging for our Year 12s, however, our students have taken each challenge in their stride.  Our VCE students have been busily working to complete the final requirements of Unit 3 while our VCAL students are well on their way to completing their competency levels.  With only twelve weeks left of classes for our VCAL students and sixteen weeks until our VCE students’ first exam, the end is in well and truly in sight.

At this stage, all our students have met with our Pathways Team and have mapped out their goals for future study and employment. Applications for those VCE students wishing to complete a scoreless VCE (choosing not to undertake exams) have been open for the past two weeks and were due at the conclusion of Term 2. We will open these applications again in Term 3.

In Week 5 (May 30th - 3rd June), our Year 12 Dreamcatchers continued to develop relationships with their Year 7 Buddies through the Adopt-a-Dreamcatcher Program. Excitingly, the Year 7s observed a Year 12 class of their choice with their buddy. By exposing our younger students to the practices of the senior school, the hope is to inspire our future leaders while promoting a culture of academic success across the college.

We saw more evidence of these fantastic relationships at the annual Year 12 Fancy Dress ‘Hollywood’ Party on June 17th. Deprived of events due to COVID for the past two years, our staff and students approached the event with great enthusiasm and the night was a huge success. Our VCE Captains, Mia Lansley and Chloe Ivanow-Mercer set the tone, MC-ing the night, handing out lighthearted student and teacher Awards in celebration of the fantastic, combined efforts of our Year 12 students and staff as they work to successfully execute Mornington’s 2022 Year 12 Program.

There are a number of big events happening in term 3 for Year 12’s. TRAG (Teenagers Road Accident Group) will be presenting on the 18th of July. We urge all Year 12s to sign up to this valuable, lifesaving program which is funded by the college. Also, on September 12th we will be running the Elevate Program for all VCE students undertaking exams, focusing on study techniques and tips for life beyond school. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to use Compass to sign up for both of these great programs.
