Year 11

I would like to congratulate all the VCAL and VCE students who have shown tremendous commitment to their studies and attended school on a regular basis.  Good attendance is the foundation of successful academic outcomes for our students.

Please encourage your child to attend school on a regular basis to maximise their learning and in turn be the best that they can be.

Vocational Education

The students have worked well this term. Please can I remind parents to keep an eye of their child’s attendance data at TAFE.

Our training provider, which is Chisholm TAFE, requires students to attend regularly. Students who miss too many weeks will not be awarded their Certificate. If students do not obtain their certificate from TAFE they will also not receive the units associated with the training. These units contribute to the VCAL certificate.

Well done to all the students who have attended their Structured Work Learning Placement. It is great to hear all the stories about their work.

VCE

Term 3 our students  undertaking their Unit ¾ subjects will be sitting the GAT on 7th September. This is a compulsory event that is used in calculating a study score and ATAR. Students must be available on this date. Please do not make any appointments for this date.

To support students preparing for the Unit ¾ subjects we will running a series of study workshops and creating a number of study groups so students are able to support one another  and prepare for their first ever VCAA exam.

The VCAA exams for students undertaking a unit 3/4 subject will commence in October.

Follow this link to identify the date of your child’s exam:

All Year 11 students will be commencing their Unit 2 subjects.

Please take the time to look at your child’s report to identify the number of units they have accumulated in semester 1.  The maximum possible is six units.  Many of our students have done really well and worked hard and have obtained excellent results.

For a student to begin their second and final year of  VCE studies in 2023 they must fulfil the following requirements:

Pass an English Unit – either unit 1 or unit 2 or ideally both units and must also obtain  as a minimum  another 5 - 7 units.

In Semester 2 students will be studying another 6 units. If you are worried about your child accumulating the required number of units to meet VCAA requirements please get in touch with Mr Howgate- gho@mornsc.vic.edu.au – to seek further guidance.

Course counselling and subject / pathway selection for 2023 will begin on 21st July after our course information evening.  Further information regarding dates and is available on Compass.  I recommend students who are unsure as to their pathway in Year 12 and beyond to speak with the Pathways Team to gather more information.

Mr Pratt, Ms Romage and myself will be analysing school data to identify students who might require additional support. Please feel free to reach out to the team for additional guidance. We are here to help.

HeadStart Program

For further information on this program please contact Fiona Fisher ffi@mornsc.vic.edu.au

Fiona will be speaking with the year 11 VCAL cohort regarding converting their Structured Work Learning Placements to an apprenticeship or traineeship. HeadStart will also participate in course selection. VCE students who are considering moving into VCAL at the end of 2022 should make an effort to speak with Fiona as soon as possible to explore their employment options.

Stay warm and safe.
