From the Principal
In the spirit of reconciliation I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We at Mornington Secondary College pay our respects to their Elders past and present.
Although Term 2 was only 9 weeks it was an extremely busy term.
It began with our annual ANZAC day ceremony and the traditional march up Main Street. We had the Southern Peninsula Division Athletics championships and the cross country. The Year 9 students went bushwalking, whilst some Year 10s practised their stand up paddle boarding skills.
Our very talented Aerobic teams competed in the regional finals making it to the state finals.
Next term, two teams will travel to Queensland and compete in the National competition. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say best wishes and good luck.
Early in term 3 students who have tried their very best in class will be recognised with a STRIVE badge.
To inform us as to who is working to the best of their ability, we will use information found in progress checks. We will look at who has completed and submitted tasks by the due date. Who was prepared and on time for class and who is respecting their learning community and is responding positively to feedback. Students in receipt of this recognition will receive a badge and become part of the STRIVE Learning Culture Club.
Learning Culture Awards are ALL about the Attitude and Effort, NOT Academic Performance. Those deserving will also receive merit awards and excellence awards.
Term 3 is also the beginning of our planning for the 2023 school year. The beginning of 2023 will see the introduction of the new Senior school certificate in all Victorian schools. This one certificate will replace the 2 certificates secondary schools offer across the state of Victoria.
A Course information evening will take place for all students and their families in Years 9 and 10 on Tuesday 19th July. It is important you attend to ensure you fully understand the new Senior Secondary School Reforms as outlined in the attachment below.
Interviews will then take place for students in Year 9, 10 and 11. Year 8 students will be asked to choose electives for Year 9.
The school production of Mamma Mia will finally take place as will the VCAL Market Day and Year 11 students will have their formal.
All students completing a Year 12 subject this year will participate in the GAT on 7th Sept.
So another busy term ahead.
I would like to say thank you to the staff of Mornington Secondary College. Their commitment to their students is to be commended. Thank you to our parent community for working with the staff at the College and thank you to all students for working hard and settling back into school life.
NAIDOC week occurred during the second week of the holidays. NAIDOC invites all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
