This week, parents/carers and significant people were invited to attend a celebration afternoon to celebrate the students’ achievements and to allow the students to publicly acknowledge and thank their significant person.

The afternoon comprised a presentation and tour of the gallery to view the art works while enjoying a light afternoon tea in the Performing Arts Centre.

The Significant Persons Project for Year 8 students is a substantial part of the semester’s curriculum.  The project spans the Arts, English and Languages faculties and is intended to allow students to identify and pay homage to a significant person in their lives.

Year 8 Significant Persons Project

-  Luci, Oliver and Anna -

Luci:

This term, Year 8’s worked on Significant Person Projects.  In English, Languages, Art, Ceramics, Drama, Music we either drew or wrote about our significant person.

This project helped students acknowledge and be grateful for significant people in our lives.

We then had the opportunity to invite our significant people to school and showcase our work, where afternoon tea was provided. Our projects were displayed in the foyer for our significant people to walk around and enjoy.

Oliver:

The Significant Person's Day was hosted on the 21st and 22nd June and was a great experience for me. It was a great opportunity for us to present our work to our significant people, as well as celebrate them with our peers.

I was excited to show my mum the work that we worked on the last semester altogether as an art gallery display.  It was a fabulous chance to show the appreciation for our significant person and it was a fun experience to share.

Anna:

During this semester students created several different pieces amongst their Drama, English, Languages and Art classes. It was a great experience to have our significant people come out and look over our pieces, as well as have them watch us read and show our designs in the Theatre.

For me, I created an English speech about the many memories and fun times I have shared with my significant person.  It was great to commemorate and express our gratitude for these people.
