VCE is changing from 2023
From 2023, the new VCE Vocational Major will replace Intermediate and Senior VCAL. This means the VCE will recognise different students equally.
The new Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) will replace Foundation VCAL. Students will have more education choices, a higher-quality curriculum and better workplace experiences – preparing them for further study, training at TAFE or work.
From 2023, more students will study the VCE. That is because the VCE will include the Vocational Major, a 2-year program that sits within the VCE. There will also be the Victorian Pathways Certificate for those who need flexibility in their learning.
A new information and awareness campaign, Many Talents, One VCE will roll out explaining the changes. The changes are a result of the Review into Vocational and Applied Learning Pathways in Senior Secondary Schooling (the Firth review). The review found we needed to improve vocational learning in schools.
Schools currently offering VCAL will switch to the VCE Vocational Major from 2023.
Some schools that do not offer VCAL will expand their options to include the VCE Vocational Major.
Teachers and careers counsellors are available to answer questions and to support students as they make decisions about their final years at school.
Now students will have greater access to high-quality, relevant vocational education and applied learning opportunities.

Term 3
Subject Selection Interviews
Year 9 students will have a brief interview regarding their subject selections for 2023 during the first week of Term 3 (July 11-15).
Year 10 students will have their interview regarding their subject selection during the second week of Term 3 (July 19-22).
During the interviews, students will be advised regarding appropriate subjects for their future career pathways. Most students in Year 10 should have already met with a careers practitioner to discuss their pathway for 2023 and beyond.
A Senior School Subject Selection Guide is on the Careers Website to assist students and parents with selecting subjects for 2023.
2023 Vocational Education & Training Information Sessions
During Week 7, students interested in studying a VET subject in 2023 attended a lunchtime information session and were emailed an Expression of Interest Google Form to be completed by the end of Term 2.
Any students who are interested in studying a VET subject that DID NOT attend, please meet with the VET Coordinators in the Careers Office.
A reminder that in 2023, VET subjects are only on offer to Year 11 and Year 12 students; with the exception of Acting and Animals Studies, which are available for Year 10 students.
