Year 9 Visual Communication and Design

On Wednesday 1st June, the Year 9 students doing the Visual Communication Design elective class visited Yarra Ranges Tech to create a scale model of the new Lilydale station.
Students were also able to meet some of the engineers that worked on the project to help them with the model and explain the process that went into the design and construction of the station. Students were then able to design their own creation and print it using the Tech schools 3D printers.

For VCD, we went to the Ranges Tech School. The first thing we did there was meet Ashley, he helped us through the day and conducted the session. We then got out pieces of the Lilydale train station module, painted pieces and watched a video on the journey of the new train station before having a short break.
We met some workers from the train station project and they were able to help us set up the train station module which we managed to do, but we didn't have the correct glue to piece it together permanently.
After the module we had a lunch break. We were able to have a small tour of the Tech School and learn what different 3d printers they had, what a laser cutter was and how/what they use the different ones for.
We had an opportunity to 3d print our own projects which a lot of us had fun designing and watching them print, before we helped pack up and walk back to school at the end of the day.
We thank the Tech School for allowing us to work on the train station module project with them.

'Side Hustle'
On Friday 10 June, the Year 9 Side Hustle class held a BBQ and bake stall for students and staff.
Funds raised will be donated to the Lighthouse Foundation who support homeless youth.

Students enjoying the pre production planning and filming for their genre videos, remaking a fairy tale.
Year 9 Ceramics
Students in Ms Hovanjec's class have been finishing their ceramic design pieces this week.
Year 10 Food Truck Festival
Last week, saw the inaugural Food Truck Feast catered for by the Year 10 Cooking for Company students.
These students have spent most of this term investigating and planning their menus for this event, which is also their major assessment for the course.
All students did an amazing job! A huge congratulations to all students who participated.
Unexplained Student Absences
We ask that all parents and carers please check COMPASS and approve ANY UNEXPLAINED ABSENCES your son/daughter may have outstanding for Term 2.
TERM 3 - REMINDER
Charge Devices
A reminder for all Year 9 and 10 students to make sure that devices are fully charged when they come to school. They are a very important learning tool that should be ready to use every day.
