Awesome Chess Teams:

Recently Mrs Hannard and some helpful parents took three Chess teams to the west schools Chess Champs.

Two of our players won all their games. Out of 150 competitors, only five won all their games. Joshua Wang from room 17 not only won all his games, but he is also only in year three and he beat competitors from year six.

Max Xia also won all his games and was a model of calm competence in all his games.

Unfortunately, we finished just outside the top three and so will not be sending a team to the National Champs in Christchurch. Our competitors were absolutely impeccable competitors, displaying grace, manners, sportsmanship and honesty.

Sadly, some other schools' competitors had active support from parents telling them moves to make, and even sometimes moving their chess piece for them. This is not a moan, the event was way too big for the organiser to keep an eye on everything, but we have made some helpful suggestions very respectfully for ways to avoid this happening next year.
