Mooresville

Welcome

Dear families,

How wonderful to be back in such a positive learning environment. It was great to see the smiles on the faces of our Grade 1-6 students and then the excitement of the Prep students. Those smiles create joy bubbles for the staff and are our rewards.

A couple of things about this year:

  • Student Wellbeing leaders:  A huge welcome to Claire and Cleo who have taken on this student leadership role. We have met and they have some plans already for 2020. They will wear their Tribes Trooper vests and be visible out in the yard, read friendship stories to our younger students and give out raffle tickets to students showing our Tribes Agreements. Thanks for modelling our Tribes Agreements and RHPS Values, Claire and Cleo.
  • Respectful Relationships: Belinda Granger and I will be attending a Regional briefing regarding what this may look like at RHPS. We are excited about building on our Tribes Agreements and RHPS Values – we have a solid foundation in place.
  • School Review – we will be very busy in the coming fortnight as our school undertakes the Department’s cyclical review. Student Wellbeing is doing well, however, we are always looking for improvement. Students have been a part of this and my heart swelled when our four captains gave the words: Inclusion, Welcoming, Positivity, Tribes to sum up their 45 minute discussion with the Review panel members.
  • Growth Mindset – this will be our big focus for our Tribes activities this term and ongoing across the year. I’m really looking forward to sharing lessons with staff and students.
  • Global Studies – cultural diversity, global understanding, Harmony Day, Engage with Asia, Auslan, Around the Globe with Ms Moore…. These all fall under the global studies umbrella. Such excitement already as some students have started learning Auslan, some have gone ‘around the globe’
  • [first stop China] and we had a visit on Monday from the Hongde Lion troupe . Mrs Harrison in Performing Arts has an erhu activity for students. Mrs Granger knows how to make Chinese lanterns. Our students’ understanding of the world around us, cultural practices and cultural diversity is growing weekly at Rolling Hills.

A reminder that If you need to speak directly to your child’s teacher, we encourage you to do so at school pick up time or to contact them via Compass to arrange a mutually suitable time. It is vital for teachers to give their full attention to all students in their care during learning time. Once the school bell has gone at 9:50 am,  it is not a good time to discuss concerns, even if only for a couple of minutes. If the matter is urgent, it is best to leave a message at the school office. We appreciate your cooperation in providing our students with the best possible learning environment.

Congratulations to all our students who have shown resilience in their first week back – kindness, fair play, respect, and care have all been visible around the school. Well done everyone.

See you at the Gate

Cheers Mary
