Sustainability Update - Waste Management

Our student leaders recently met to look at setting their goals for 2020. Our sustainability leaders had spent the week collecting waste around the school and noticed a few things:

• A large collection of soft plastics in the bins and in the yard
• Incorrect recycling for paper, cardboard and containers
• Food waste being placed in the general rubbish

In consultation with the Resource Smart webpage and materials they will look at reducing waste across the school and implementing sustainable waste management strategies in the following areas:

• Soft plastic recycling bins
• Recycling information and education
• Food waste areas and improved composting strategies (working with our Kitchen Garden leaders)
• Reducing general waste in the school

We hope that this will have a positive impact on general waste in the yard and minimising the general waste that we produce and have collected and therefore having a positive impact on our environment and educating our community on waste management techniques.
