Kitchen and Garden Wrap
In the kitchen this fortnight... Year 4 declared the potato salad a winner, while Year 6 broke out the spice jars with an Indian inspired menu. S13 held an impromptu apple peeling comp with the longest apple peel measuring 53cm!
In the garden... Year 4 did a stellar job in clearing and tidying the hothouse and shadehouse (extra special thanks to volunteer Darinka for coordinating this), and harvested a lot of yummy cherry tomatoes. Year 6 harvested apples from our trees and used their maths to find the average weight of a Granny Smith apple - 99.6g. The garden is now coming along nicely with beds cleared and planted out with next season's crops. A big thank you to all involved.
Each fortnight we will update you with what we have been cooking in the kitchen with the kids. Dust off the apron and see if you can match the efforts of our Surfside students...
Volunteers still needed
Seeking volunteer adult helpers to assist in our Kitchen and Garden classes. Parents, grandparents, family friends, retirees, others, all welcome! Even if your child’s year level is not currently in the program.
You can help in the Kitchen, in the Garden, or both. No experience is required but all adult helpers need a current Working With Children’s Check (no cost to apply for). Garden classes run on Tuesday mornings, and Kitchen classes on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Garden help is required outside of class times too!
Please contact me ASAP if you are able to assist or have any questions, via email Mewett.camille.l@edumail.vic.gov.au, or ask at the office.

Tomatoes Galore
A small but amazing crew of volunteers and students from S14 helped to prepare and freeze 72kg of tomatoes and 20kg of plums for our Fresh Food Fair later this year. This produce will be turned into our amazing tomato sauce and chutney as well as a yummy plum sauce.
