World's Greatest Shave is Coming to Surfside

One of our Year 6 students, Oliver Bentley, is preparing to bare it all for the sake of fundraising to support those battling blood cancers. As a school we will be supporting him by selling muffins, wrist bands and running a hair spraying stall on Friday, March 13 as we gather together in the Courtyard for lunch while Ollie has his hair shaved off.

If you prefer, you can show your support directly by going to www.worldsgreatestshave.com.au and search for Oliver Bentley to make a donation.

Community Engagement Evening

We would like to thank the 30+ parents and carers who attended our wine and cheese Community Engagement evening. We all enjoyed getting to know each other as well as having some discussion around a number of areas of boosting community engagement at Surfside Primary School. There were plenty of great ideas and opportunities to form some specific groups for upcoming events and actions. We look forward to working with these parents and many more throughout the school year and highlighting what is happening so you can also volunteer to lend a helping hand.

Getting to know the staff at Surfside

Gill Hodgson (Wellbeing and Engagagement) and Lynda Patterson (Learning Specialist)

What is special about my role at Surfside Primary School?

Gill - I love the diversity of my role. Everyday is different. Sometimes my agenda gets set aside while I meet with a parent, calm a student, coordinate an NDIS provider, school assessment or evening meal for a family all while thinking I can put together a newsletter article, plan a whole school event, look at SWPBS behaviour data or attend a meeting, plan whole staff professional learning and follow the action plan for Respectful Relationships while applying for funding support for a student.

Lynda - My role is the best! Why do you ask? Because my role is so diverse and challenges my thinking every day. I love working with people and in this role I get to work with all the students and teachers across the school. I’m very lucky. My focus is on everybody learning together!

What do I most enjoy about working at Surfside Primary School?

Gill - I love being part of a team. We have a great staff who are passionate and committed to delivering high quality learning experiences to our students. And I love our students – they are friendly, enthusiastic, full of ideas and community minded

Lynda - Working with dedicated teachers and kind students.

What is something about you that nobody else would know?

Gill - I like to quilt when I have time.

Lynda - That my husband is teaching me how to surf. Luckily, I have a growth mindset, as it’s not easy to stay up on the board!

What is a quote that inspires me?

Gill - 'Your mind will always believe everything you tell it. Feed it hope, feed it truth and feed it with love.'

Lynda - 'If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t know it well enough' - Albert Einstein.

What book am I currently reading?

Gill - ”Student Voice – Turn up the Volume” by Russell Quaglia

Lynda- As I have an almost one year old, I haven’t had as much time in the last few weeks to finish a book! Some of my favourite books that I read with Cohen everyday are The Very Noisy Baby, Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes and Where the Wild Things Are. We love reading books together.
