2019 reflection....

It was a feast for the senses as Surfside Primary School served up a colourful celebration of food, music and fun at its annual Fresh Food Fair last year.

The annual twilight event was back bigger and better than ever with lots of tasty food and treats showcasing the school’s Kitchen Garden program.

Home-made lemonade was in hot demand as the temperature soared to the mid-30s but it didn’t bother fair goers, who enjoyed rides, live music, sideshow games, and the highly anticipated reptile display.

Students and the school community prepared a whopping 80 litres of curry for the fair, along with more than 300 sausage rolls and 120 potato and kale pastries.

They also filled 170 bottles of Surfside’s famous tomato sauce and dozens of different jams for the preserve stall.

Much of the produce comes from the school’s award-winning kitchen garden and generous donations from the community.

The fair is Surfside Primary School’s major fundraiser of the year, with proceeds supporting the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, run out of its purpose-built commercial kitchen.

Principal Peter Walsh said it was fantastic to see a strong sense of community on display at the fair.

He said hosting such an event was a real team effort and students were heavily involved in planning, cooking food and preparing stalls in the lead up to the big night.

“It was great to see the community connections on the night,” Mr Walsh said.
