Learning at TPS

Learning to Learn

Throughout Learning to Learn students in the senior building took part in their very first ‘Discovery’ sessions for the year. Students participate in all four discoveries including: Indonesian, Personal Learning, Digital Technologies and Inquiry. individual subjects are taught by one senior teacher across the 3-6 year levels meaning students are able to engage with a range of teachers throughout the year.

Read on below to find out more about each discovery:

Digital Technology

In our first Digital Technology lesson, students collaborated and discussed expectations that would need to be adhered to throughout future lessons. Students brainstormed various forms of technologies and used this information to create a front page for their Digital Technology workbook. Throughout the lesson students reviewed the schools Acceptable Use Policy and discussed the importance of being cyber safe through protecting their personal information, identifying cyber bullying and being aware of copyright issues.

Personal Learning

In the first Personal Learning lesson, students worked together to brainstorm ways to establish a safe and supportive environment. The students decided that it is important to respect opinions, trust each other and not judge or make fun of their peers. We also introduced the Zones of Regulation and what the different Zones represent. The students will be spending some time over the next few weeks investigating the Zones of Regulation and developing a personalised ‘toolbox’ of strategies.

Inquiry

In Inquiry this term students in 3/4 will be learning about the benefits of being healthy and understanding emotional responses during physical activities. The 5/6 students are learning about promoting safety and well-being. And looking at how to be safe at home, in the community and farms.

Indonesian

Week 1 in Indonesian discovery, students were given the opportunity to link Indonesian questions with English answers. They were asked their age, favourite colour, favourite food, favourite TV show and favourite book. Students also came up with some class expectations during Indonesian lessons.

Junior School
