GEKA Support the Envision Hand Project
GEKA has partnered with Envision hands this year, to collect bottle tops to be recycled and repurposed into prosthetic limbs for children.
Envision is a small community focused organisation that has worked throughout Victoria and Tasmania to engage disadvantaged job seekers in fascinating projects that get them work-ready and motivated. They use 3D printers to turn the lids into prosthetic limbs for children in third world countries.
This collaborative project – Envision Hands – is the only project of its kind to make prosthetic limbs from recycled bottle tops. It aims to make 100 prosthetic limbs for disadvantaged people and communities in need - we are very proud to say we have children, families and the local community helping to collect bottle tops.
Educators have discussed this initiative with the children and one little girl at GEKA Glover St Kindergarten, has taken the idea and embraced it as a project for herself. Her mission is to collect 500 bottle tops - the amount required to make 1 hand by herself.
With the support of her family she has created a collection point at her home and a sign inviting her neighbours to contribute to her collection, she has bottle tops being posted from as far as QLD to help her make her quota.
Children at other GEKA services, such as GEKA Murrumbeena Kindergarten, have made their own sign so families know what tops to collect!
What inspiring children we have, embracing the opportunity to help others with such passion and commitment. The actions of this child gives us hope for a better future for all.
