This week in sporting news……

Last week concluded our two week block focussing on, Jump Rope for Heart and skipping as a skill.  It was brilliant to see every child giving it a RED HOT GO, even if they didn't feel confident with the rope.  Along with a lot of basic independent skipping we saw a range of spectacular tricks that students were hiding up their sleeves!  The best part of this unit, for us, was seeing the way more confident skippers supported their peers who were having difficulty grasping the concept.  Small group jumping activities, games and stations allowed everyone to experience success and also learn some valuable tips from other classmates along the way.  The program has been an extremely positive experience for everyone involved as it gave us time to reflect on the importance of our ‘heart’.  Using a fairly simple skill like skipping, we can keep our hearts healthy and beating strong for the future.

We will be having a Whole School Jump Off afternoon in the coming weeks.  Students are invited to bring their own skipping ropes from home if they have them.  Weather permitting, we will head out to our beautiful new oval space, play some ROCKING tunes and JUMP until our legs fall off!

If you haven’t had a chance to jump online and check out the website for Jump Rope, simply head to www.jumprope.org.au.  There, you will find a link to register, information about the program, videos of tricks to perform and all the ways you can help raise awareness about heart health.

We would also like to send a huge SHOUT OUT to all of the people who have logged on and donated to our school’s overall total. As of today, Miners Rest Primary School has so far raised an AMAZING $1,260. Thank you so much for supporting this very important cause and our students in their efforts to JUMP ROPE FOR OUR HEARTS!

SWIMMING

In other sporting news, Year 3 / 4 students are excited to be back into the ‘swim’ of things at school.  Every Monday the students from the Brady building will be attending Swim and Survival Academy in Wendouree for 45 minute lessons.  We would like to say a big thank you to the parents for making sure all students are prepared every Monday morning for their lessons and to the teachers who are providing students with opportunities to eat their lunch and snack at alternate times.  With the warmer weather starting to appear there is no better place to be than the pool!

SOCCER NEWS

Jake R in Year Five recently won the Ballarat and District Soccer Association U12 Best and Fairest award. This is a huge achievement where Jake is playing two years ahead of his age group. He plays with Ballarat Soccer Club who went undefeated and were league champions.  Jake polled a total of 16 votes, 3 votes ahead of the runner up. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement Jake!
