School Council

Engaging with the community” is a core value of Kingswood Primary School. After two very difficult and challenging years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the School Council of Kingswood Primary School is taking steps to give all members of the school’s community an insight into its operation and scope.

Given that we’ve all been off-site for so long it can often feel like we have become disconnected from our community. Therefore, the purpose of this communication is to introduce the School Council at Kingswood Primary School in order to be transparent; let you know what is going on at our school and maybe even spark your interest in becoming involved, as the efficacy of any school council is reliant on the willingness of those who take part to get involved. There are lots of different ways to take part in the work of our School Council and regardless of whether you choose to get involved or not, we hope this introduction gives you an insight into how your children’s governance body works.

The role of the School Council is to provide governance of the school’s operation; to provide the framework to manage its resources and structures, whereas the Principal determines the day-to-day operation of the school.

Our KPS School Council currently consists of 8 parent positions, 2 community positions, and 4 DET positions. Evening meetings are held 8 times a year, and all members are asked to contribute to at least one of the 3 sub-committees that meet prior to the school council meetings - Finance, F.A.C.E (Facilities and Community Engagement), and the Student Learning & Student Well-being sub-committee. Each sub-committee reviews relevant policies and discusses how to improve KPS within that group’s scope. You do not have to be a School Council member to take part in the sub-committee meetings. Sub-committee and School Council meetings are open to anyone who would like to attend. There are certain stipulations regarding attendance when voting or confidential matters are discussed.
