Senior School

It has been a busy couple of weeks in the Senior School.

Students in Years 7 – 10 have now completed their assessment and examination weeks, with only a small number of practical, in-class tasks still to be completed before the end of the year. Year 11 have undergone their Leadership Induction Ceremony, and can now truly be called Year 12 students. And, after an extended wait, our Year 12 students have begun their HSC Examinations.

In addition to these more formal events, Sport has re-commenced with trials and training well-underway and our outstanding Wilderness Education Team have led Years 9 - 11 through a series of challenges known only as “The Extravaganza.” It is a joy to see life slowly returning to normal here at Blue Mountains Grammar School.

As we re-open and re-start long-dormant activities, there are a few key points I must ask parents and students to note.

  1. While we made an intentional decision in the first two weeks after the return to face-to-face learning to ignore slight aberrations to our normal uniform and presentation rules and chose instead to focus on helping students return and reintegrate smoothly, it is now time for us to resume the usual pride with which our uniform is worn and with which students present themselves. Tutors and Heads of House will be asking students sporting mullets and ponytails/man-buns (boys), and all students with additional piercings etc. to address these issues promptly now that barbers and hair-dressers have re-opened. Non-uniform clothing will also be a topic discussed where it is seen. For clarity surrounding uniform and presentation requirements at the School, please see p.16 of the student diary.
  2. Where students are withdrawn during the School day for any reason, I ask please that parents write directly to absencess@bmgs.nsw.edu.au. In recent days some confusion has been caused by students writing directly to their teachers instead.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in these matters.

Mr. Owen Laffin

Deputy Head - Head of Senior School
