Community Spotlight: Year 5/6

Focus: Returning to School

The Two Day Camp Inspired Program

As students transitioned back to onsite learning, a big focus was placed on ensuring the Year 5/6 community engaged in some much needed team building and peer bonding time!

Unfortunately this year, due to Covid restrictions, students were unable to go on their bi-annual camp to Marysville. However a Two Day Program was put together, to ensure students still got a chance to enjoy some time away from the mundane classroom routine.

The program started off with a community breakfast. A selection of baked goods, cereals and fruits were on offer to fuel us for a big day ahead.

Once tummies were filled, students were broken up into groups and completed some camp inspired activities. These being Orienteering, Kite Building and Damper Making. Students were thoroughly engaged in each of the activities. With communication and peer bonding at the forefront of these activities, students made the most of the interaction with one another.

A Subway lunch was provided and students were able to enjoy their lunches in the sunshine, chat with their peers and catch up on lost time.

The weather for day two put plans into disarray, however the program went ahead with some minor adjustments. Students took part in a round robin, where they rotated through three activities - Paper Planes, Balloon Volleyball and Ping Pong Race, the aim, to score points for their team! The photos below show the craziness, the fun and the peer encouragement!

Circles Time Groups

It has been great to recommence our Circle Time Groups as the children have returned to on-site learning.

I look forward to working with the children to develop Emotional Awareness and Skills and Positive Communication Skills throughout the time we have left of the term.

Take care  and stay safe,
