Congratulations again to Sienna Reese for winning the Term 3 Resident Writers competition. Now that we are back on site Sienna finally got to collect her prize.
Her winning entry is titled Indecisive :
I don’t have a favourite word. I want to be able to answer the token “what is your favourite colour” question every time it comes up, but I find it hard to decide and I’m the type of person who likes to know what my favourite thing is. Most people have something, like a favourite band or tv show, but I think, for me, it’s the little things that humans do that make me happy. The wide smiles we have when we smell our favourite food, and the infatuation we have with our favourite animals. The way we perk up when our interests come up in conversations, or when our favourite songs come on the radio. Watching your favourite movie so many times you don’t even need the sound up to know what they’re saying, hurriedly messaging your friends when your favourite celebrity posts. Re-reading your favourite books even though you know exactly what happens. The smallest reactions, laughing at what you find funny, your favourite lyrics, if you’re a dog or a cat person, these little reactions are specific to you. These are what make you so special, the way a song makes you feel, how a person makes you feel, how we have best friends, favourite people, favourite things. The feeling you get on a sunny drive, how delicious water is at 3am when you wake up thirsty, the way we have dreams at night while sleeping, the way we need to sleep because life is to exhilarating to have energy all the time. Stars in the sky at night-time, stargazing, clouds in the sky on warm days, cloud animals. Dinosaurs, cows, Laika the dog that was sent to space, iced tea, bird documentaries, the cool wind that comes after a heatwave, all these little things are my favourite. And so, I have a hard time choosing my favourite things, though I do know that favourite things are my favourite.
The final 2021 Resident Writers has the theme of ESCAPE - escape from routine, school, a particular place, or whatever else escape means to you.
