Year 10 News

Course Counselling & Pathway Options for 2024
Year 10 students are currently busy working on their course selections and pathways for next year. We recently had the VCE Team from the senior campus come in and talk about options for next year. Students can choose between VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) and the new VCEVM (Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major), which replaces the current VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) program as of 2024.
There are some differences between the two programs, and this was explained to students, and more recently to parents and the senior campus information night. We strongly encourage parents to be involved in this process and are always happy to answer any questions you might have.
Course Counselling is the process students follow when they choose their pathway into Year 11/12.
Throughout this Term, students will (and have) receive information and advice about pathway options offered at Kurnai. Students will want to be as prepared as possible to make informed decisions when they attend a Course Counselling Interview, which will be happening on Wednesday 30th August. Students can now nominate a time that suits both them and you for these sessions. A sign-up sheet is now located in the Year 10 and Careers areas. Students are encouraged to sign up early to ensure they get the time you require and to avoid disappointment.
On Wednesday 16th August students will attend the University Campus for a subject information day and tour of the campus, to familiarise themselves with the options available and the campus itself, as well as ask any questions they might have as they look to their future selections. This is compulsory and all students are expected to attend to ensure they are as prepared as possible for the Course Counselling sessions.
If you require further information about these options please contact Todd Miller - Year 10 Leader, or Angela Northover - Campus Careers Advisor, on 5132 3700. Alternatively, you can contact the senior campus directly and speak with someone there on 5132 3800.
Job Skills Expo
Year 9 & 10 students recently attended the Job Skills Expo at Lardner Park in Warragul, where they got the opportunity to wander around a number of displays and speak to people in a variety of industries. There were also several seminars and panel discussions on offer for students to attend a gain more knowledge and information about possible industries and jobs they might like to pursue.
Despite being a cold and wet day, students had a great time and even managed to sample foods and collect merchandise from around the many displays and store holders. Again, this was another important step in their decision-making process for future pathways and career opportunities.

They have chosen a known cartoon and mixed features from their cartoon with features from ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Katsushika Hokusai. Concept Art students have worked on paper, while 3D Art students have created a Relief Style artwork version.
