Literacy

This week in our writing lessons we have been exploring the structure of an explanation text. We started by researching a topic like 'the life cycle of a sunflower' or 'how does a volcano erupt'. Next we thought of a general statement about our topic, followed by some extra information. The next step in the process is to explain exactly how or why something happens and then we end with a conclusion. 

Mathematics

While learning about division this week we completed a fun activity with chocolate! Before we could eat any chocolate we had to think about some division strategies that gave us a better chance of getting more chocolate . As a class we then lined up and one-by-one came to the middle of the room and had to decide if we wanted to sit at table 1, which had 1 block of chocolate on it, table 2 which had 2 blocks or table 3 which had 3 blocks. The catch was that once everyone had sat down, the chocolate would be divided equally amongst all the students at the table.
