Police Visits – Years 7-12
On Friday the 28th of July, the year 7-12 students partook in round 2 of presentations from the Werribee Proactive Policing Unit. These informative and educational presentations are aimed at raising awareness of issues young people may experience and provide a clear understanding of the implications and consequences associated with anti-social behaviours, and ways to seek help. It is suggested you speak with your child about the presentations to understand their learnings from them. Students in years 8, 10, 11 and 12 participated in a presentation aimed at addressing matters concerned with assaults, weapons, threats (plus others) and their associated legal consequences and types of assistance available. Years 7 and 9 viewed a presentation associated with matters around cyber-bullying, digital reputation, the role of the by-stander and their associated offences, legal consequences, reporting and assistance available. Some tips to assist your child with cyber-safety:
- talk openly with your child about their online activity
- be 'share aware' to protect privacy (think before posting)
- lead by example - model positive online behaviour
We hope your child appreciates these experiences and understands the value in the educational opportunities we are providing them outside of the typical classroom environment, regarding matters they may be experiencing.
Please contact your child’s Year Level Coordinator or a member of the Wellbeing team if you have any questions or concerns, Mrs Newton.
Unit 2 Health & Human Development
Last week, the Unit 2 Health and Human Development students visited the Grade 3s and 5s and the Altona Early Years Hub. As part of the key knowledge learnt in their current Area of Study around understanding characteristics of development as well as the role of parents, carers and/or family environment in determining optimal development of children, these visits enabled students to observe firsthand how development evolves over different stages of the lifespan.
The students played an active role whilst on their visits, interacting and assisting teachers with the play and learning experiences for the children. These experiences are going to be further enhanced in the near future with the student’s becoming “parents” to our fantastic ‘Robot Babies.’ Watch this space! Mrs Newton
