Youth Resilience Survey Results

We would like to share some data from the results of the Youth Resilience Survey, which was completed by our Year 4, 5 and 6 students late last term. This annual, 100 question survey is presented to the students with little introduction and they are asked to complete it honestly. They are aware that this survey is anonymous.

We recently reviewed the results of the survey with the consultants from Bayside Youth and they were amazed at the results of our school. Some of the programs we offer here that ensure our students feel safe, connected, and respected are: Our HERRRby Values, our Manner of the Month program, our Year level Wellbeing programs and the Circle Time and class discussions about wellbeing that take place weekly. All our staff have a deep understanding that learning starts with feeling well connected, happy and supported both at school and at home.

So let’s take a quick look…

These graphs look at our Year 4, 5 and 6 students responses for feeling Connected, Protected and Respected at school.

Earn and Learn

Our students in Year 5 and 6 are busily preparing for their ‘Earn and Learn’ program that is held in Term 3, every second year. This practical program is a financial awareness program and involves the students establishing a ‘business’.  They have to document their income and expenditure through a spreadsheet and work in teams to operate their business. Just like in the real-world students pay tax through the money they earn, rent, make payment towards their utility bills (water, gas and electricity), take out homework and health insurance policies contribute to superannuation and make weekly purchases. Later in the term, the Year 5 and 6 students will operate their businesses and will be keen to serve the eager shoppers from all our other classes! The visiting shoppers are given a ‘virtual’ credit card of $1000 to spend.

Curriculum Day

A reminder that next Wednesday, 26th July, is a Curriculum Day. This is a student free day. The teaching staff will have a full day professional development presentation on The Seven Steps of Writing. Team Kids will run a whole day program for families who require this service.

2024 Prep Enrolments

Prep enrolment numbers are steadily building for the 2024 school year. If you are yet to enrol a prep child for next year at our school, please complete this enrolment as soon as possible so we can accurately plan for the year ahead. Also, if you are aware of any neighbours that are planning on sending their children to Gardenvale, could you kindly remind them to submit their enrolment forms.

Australian Conservation Foundation

The Australian Conservation Foundation is running a Threatened Species Competition. We have many budding artists in our school who may be interested in entering this competition and at the same time advocating for our threatened wildlife. This link will take you to further information https://www.acf.org.au/wild-at-art-competition

Have a great week,
